Dr. Dinesh Balakrishnan obtained his MBBS (1996) from Medical College Calicut and MS (General Surgery) from Medical College Kottayam (2001). After post graduation he worked as a lecture in the Department of General Surgery at Kottayam Medical College. He joined the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in 2002 and worked as a senior resident for four years. Later, joind the Dip NB programme in GI surgery under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. After specialisation, joined the department as Clinical Assistant Professor. In 2010 took up the post of senior clinical fellow at Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge in the Department of Transplant Surgery. Gained experience in organ retrieval and implant and also participated in the care of patients undergoing multivisceral transplants. Came back and has been actively involved in the solid organ transplant programme at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. He has been involved with the state government (KNOS) and voluntary organizations like the national service society to create awareness about public health issues. Conducted awareness camps across the state on public health issues and creating awareness about organ donation.
